WW2 French Resistance in Semur en Auxois
Learn about the Maquis 'Henri Bourgogne' that was based in Semur en Auxois and founded by Henri Camp.
In a 2.5hr guided trip driving around Semur, I'll tell the fascinating story of what was one of the most influential and active resistance groups in the region. We'll visit the sites of some of the maquis camps, hear the stories behind the roadside memorials and follow the fate of the group from its beginnings to the liberation of Semur en Auxois on the 11th Sept 1944.
Along the way we'll also visit the site of what was a fierce battle, where SAS jeeps in a mission way behind the enemy lines (August 1944) encountered a heavily defended village near Semur. Hear first hand accounts and follow the dramatic events step by step.
